Geoff's Golf Tips

Having played with some of the best players in the world and taught golf for over 40 years, Faringdon Golf Course professional Geoff Robbins has a wealth of experience when it comes to helping others play better golf.

And in this section, Geoff passes on what he believes are the best lessons, tips and advice he's learnt in golf.

Geoff's Tip...
Use the off season winter months for constructive practice

If you are concerned with any particular aspect of your game now is the time to focus on the changes you might need to make.

I would strongly recommend that you find a PGA Qualified Golf Professional to help you make these changes, as it is essential you are practicing the right things. I would advise most people to have 4 or 5 1-2-1 lessons a year with a Professional and view it as a 'service check' to ensure you are not slipping into any bad habits.

If you don't have a lot of time to practice, the best way to improve is to concentrate on the parts of your game that can save you the most shots. For most players this is usually the short game.

For most golfers the clubs in your bag that will save you the most shots would be your putter followed by wedges and short irons and lastly the driver.

Stay focused on the aspects of your game that will improve your scoring

Never practise any one thing for more than 15-20 minutes (unless you are a young low handicap player) because your attention will wander and you will put too much strain on the body. Have a short break and start afresh.

Turn the winter months into your most positive practice period
